Legal Voice hosts events throughout the year to educate, celebrate, inspire, and engage our community.

We host our annual fundraising gala, Cocktails for a Cause, in late winter/early spring; legislative debriefs in the summer; community appreciation parties in the fall; and issue-focused, action-oriented events such as action nights, lunch-and-learns, workshops, and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) opportunities throughout the year.

Global Trends in the Rejection of Fetal Personhood: Launching the New Beyond Borders Report

Tuesday, September 1

1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT

On Zoom (Register to Get Link)

Post-Dobbs, legal strategies grounded in prenatal personhood are increasingly common and pose a particular threat to women, girls, and pregnant people’s lives, health, and well-being in the United States. Advocates and decision-makers in other countries have successfully relied on innovative arguments to push back against similar attacks, even within restrictive legal environments.

Join us for the virtual launch of “Rejection of Prenatal Personhood,” a new comparative report that situates prenatal personhood in the United States within the broader global context. During the webinar, experts will provide a comprehensive overview of efforts to establish legal personhood for prenatal life in the U.S. and globally, and case studies on the law and policy strategies to defeat them.

    Speakers:

    • Wendy Heipt, Senior Litigation Counsel, Legal Voice
    • Fran Linkin, Senior Director of Research, Reproductive Freedom & Health Equity, State Innovation Exchange
    • Rebecca Reingold, Associate Director, O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law
    • Paulina Macías Ortega, Wilson Legal Fellow, Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center

The “Rejection of Prenatal Personhood” report is part of the Beyond Borders report series, which brings abortion law and policy from around the world to the United States.

Host A Friend-Raising or Fundraising Event

Hosting a Legal Voice event is one of the most powerful ways to connect the people in your life to gender justice work. And you don’t have to do it alone! We’re here to help you every step of the way as you plan and execute your in-person or virtual gathering. We can provide stickers, talking points, custom birthday pins — you name it.

                Ideas to Support Gender Justice

There are many ways to gather your community and support Legal Voice’s mission.

Consider hosting one of the following:

                Personal Milestone Fundraisers

Get your friends and family members together to celebrate a birthday, graduation, or anniversary while also supporting Legal Voice. Host a party and ask for donations instead of gifts.

                Active and Sports Fundraisers

Watch a game with friends and family and donate the “betting pool.” Or host a bike ride or walk.

                Workplace Lunch & Learns

Host an educational session focused on a timely legal issue. Legal Voice experts can provide insights and answer participants’ questions. See below for topics that may be of interest to your colleagues. Talk to your Employee Resource Group about other ideas, too.

                Topics That Inspire Conversation

Events can highlight many of the key issues Legal Voice works on, including:

                • Gender equity
                • Black maternal health
                • Reproductive rights after Roe
                • Abortion and contraception access
                • Title IX protections
                • Transgender rights
                • Fetal personhood laws
                • Data privacy and health care rights
                • The harmful impacts of so-called “parents’ rights” laws

These topics help communities better understand the legal landscape and how they can support change.

                Host A Night Out

Create a memorable experience at a local bar or club with themed events such as:

                • Dance for Equity
                • Community trivia or game nights
                • Costume party with a feminist theme

Tips for Hosting a Successful Event

                Keep It Simple and Fun

Choose a focused theme. Serve simple food and drinks.

Invite Your Network and Ask Each Person to Bring Someone

Personal invitations are powerful. Reach out to colleagues, friends, and community groups who care about gender justice.

Ask Attendees to Sign Up for Legal Voice Updates

Print out a sign-up sheet or ask people to visit legalvoice.org/get-updates

Create Space for Conversation When Appropriate

When time and space allow, consider a short presentation, discussion prompt, or topic (such as “Post-Roe: Where Do We Go From Here?”) to spark meaningful dialogue.

Be Sure to Thank Everyone for Participating or Attending

We can provide thank you cards and stamps.

Ask Attendees to Donate to Legal Voice Using our Online Form

Ask attendees to donate at legalvoice.org/donate. Do not collect any donations yourself.
